Fish and catch records
Fishing catches are individual collectibles. They are different from the hostile fish in the Ocean, which drop fishbone. A rod-caught fish does not refine into bone or fishbone.
Every catch has a record
Inspect a caught fish from the result, the Catch tray or your bag. Approach a glass display and press E / Use to inspect it. For nearby or stacked displays, use the previous/next controls and nearby-fish selector; you do not need to hit a tiny fish through another cube.
The record keeps the fish's size, original catcher name, catch date, water, rod and unique specimen ID. It is an in-game catch record, not an NFT or cryptographic certificate. Trading or renaming your character does not replace the original catcher. Inspection stays pixelated like the world.
Pack fish for storage, ground drops, direct trade or player shops. These preserve the exact specimen. The quantity-only Exchange accepts only legacy unsigned species stacks; it cannot list a modern signed fish without losing information, so the game refuses that route. Ordinary fish have no automatic Bank buyback.
Species reference
The in-game journal hides undiscovered portraits. This reference lists the whole family; stop here if you prefer to discover them yourself.

The rarest catches
The legendary encounter gate is 0.04% on an eligible cast, shared by the legendary species available in that area. It is not that chance for each species. You must still hook and land the encounter.
The Gilded Sovereign requires a Prism rod at Crown Falls.
The Bank redeems one packed Gilded Sovereign for 5,000,000 GLOO. Redemption consumes that fish and uses a reserved treasury bounty; it does not create new money. A traded fish still has its original record. Take it out of a display before redeeming. It cannot be released or turned into paint.
Show it or keep it alive
A trophy display preserves one specimen. Framing costs 8 Scrap + 6 Sap + 4 Water plus the packed fish. Place it inside your stable; trophy cubes stack up to 4 high, with at most 64 placed displays per account. Unframing returns the same fish, never the framing materials.
A living aquarium is built from glass cells instead. Fish swim through joined cells and need care. Neglect can permanently leave a poor-condition trophy. These tanks have a different five-cube height limit. See Aquariums and Fish paint.
