Heroes and Villains

The arena keeps a ledger on you. Not a score you set out to farm, a reputation you build by how you behave when other players are in the room. There are two ladders and they run in opposite directions.

Earning villain standing

  • Killing another player in the open arena: 2 points.
  • Looting a corpse, yours to make or somebody else's: 1 point.
  • Kill stealing, landing the last blow on someone another player wore down: 1 point.
  • Taking a big pot in a wager duel: 1 to 5 points, scaled by the pot. Under 10,000 gloo is worth 1, over 1,000,000 is worth 5.

Earning hero standing

  • Rescuing a player: 2 points.
  • Bandaging someone who is hurt: 1 point.
  • Bounty killing, putting down one of the week's top ten villains: 3 points.
  • Bounty duelling, beating a marked villain in a posted duel: 5 points.

The bounty actions are the interesting ones. The top ten villains are marked as targets, so villainy makes you worth hunting, and hunting the villainous is how the honest get ahead. Each ladder feeds the other.

The marks

The top three on each ladder wear a glyph in front of their name, visible to everyone in the world:

  • the skull for the week's top villains
  • the star for the week's top heroes

It is a glyph, not a colour. If you have picked a name colour it stays exactly as you set it.

The weekly prize

When the week turns, the top hero and the top villain each take 50,000 gloo. One prize per player: if the same person tops both ladders they take one, and the runner up on the other side takes the other.

Why this cannot be farmed

Repeating an action against the same player pays less each time, then nothing, and every action has its own short ladder:

  • a kill on a fresh opponent pays 2, the next on that same opponent 1, the third nothing.
  • a bounty kill pays 3, then 1, then nothing.
  • a bounty duel pays 5, then 2, then nothing.
  • a big pot pays full, then half, then nothing.
  • looting a corpse, kill stealing and bandaging pay once for that person that day, and nothing after.

On top of that there are hard daily ceilings: 25 hero points a day, 35 villain points a day, spread across at most 20 distinct people. Twenty first partners in a day earns nothing, whoever they are.

Be honest about what that does and does not stop. An alt is a different wallet, so killing one pays the normal 2 then 1 then nothing. What bounds alt farming is the ceiling and the twenty partner limit, not a rule that recognises your own accounts.

None of this is decoration. The prize is real gloo entering a fixed supply world, so the limits are what stop it being an income rather than a reward.

The kill feed

Open arena kills announce themselves to the whole world, because winning loudly is part of the point. The feed is throttled, so one pair of players farming each other cannot fill everybody's chat.
